Salvia (sage) flowers are bright, showy beacons for nectar- and pollen-seeking pollinators such as butterflies, hummingbirds and bees. Our sage is filled with vibrant long-lasting flowers in colors and shades such as blue, violet, lavender, red, purple, white or pink. Precise blooming season may vary among selections, but expect a flower show all Summer long, possibly spilling over into fall or beginning prior, in Spring. These are Sun lovers and generally tolerant of heat and drought. Locate sage plants near a window to treat your senses to their pleasing aromas. Some are naturally compact and well-branching or rounded and dense, while others can be pruned to desired form. They prefer well-drained soil and regular water until established (around once a week, perhaps twice during hotter weather). While some varieties may be annuals in your zone, others are extremely cold hardy. Your plant will arrive fully rooted in a 2.5-quart grower pot.
