Peonies are perennials and are known to live for decades, even generations. The blooms are outrageously beautiful, producing lush, glossy green foliage all summer long, turning purplish or gold in the fall. Itoh type Peonies are bred by cross breeding herbaceous type Peonies with tree Peonies, creating a new hybrid. In the old days they sold for as much as $1,000.00 each, but these days are much more affordable. They are somewhat more expensive to propagate, but well worth the investment in your garden. Itoh Peony Lemon Dream blooms are vivid semi-double blooms, atop strong stems and bushy foliage. What sets it apart is that its flowers sometimes sport a lilac flare, a lilac petal or on some older established plants solid yellow or lilac blooms. The variety should have been named Surprise as the variation of color on the peony will vary over time. As a hybrid it combines the best qualities of its parental varieties.
