Winter Gem Boxwood is noted for keeping its good green color through Winter (while most boxwood have a tendency to bronze which makes them look like they have severe Winter freeze damage). Winter Gem also shows good resistance to the main pests of boxwoods: 1) leaf miner, 2) psyllids, 3) mites. This boxwood variety is trouble-free, low care and with an occasional shear you can maintain the form you like. Use as a low, formal hedge or mass together for an excellent ground cover. Mature at 2 ft. to 3 ft. tall and 2 ft. to 3 ft. W. Neither deer nor rabbits will eat Winter Gem. Recommended for USDA hardiness zones 5 to 9. All of our hedge kit boxwoods are field grown in western Michigan's sandy loam soils, so it has a very well-developed fibrous root system. Never spent a day of it's life in a pot. So, it has never had to suffer from a pot-bound root system and there is less transplant shock and quicker adaptation when planted into a new soil type.
