Densiformis Spreading Yew is the most widely used foundation plant in the United States and also makes a great, trouble-free, low hedge. Can be sheared or pruned to any shape and is perfect for foundation plantings that won't block your view from your windows. Mature height is only 3 ft. to 4 ft. tall, but spreads up to 7 ft. Can also be sheared into a low 3 ft. to 4 ft. shake-hands-with-neighbor, hedge. Unsheared growth habit is rounded mounding. No serious insect or disease problems - no sprays required. This female cultivar has bright red berries. All of our yews are field grown in western Michigan's sandy loam soils, so it has a very well-developed fibrous root system. Never spent a day of it's life in a pot. So, it has never had to suffer from a pot-bound root system and there is less transplant shock and quicker adaptation when planted into a new soil type.
