Pure Beauty Farms proudly grows Asclepias, commonly known as Milkweed or Butterfly weed. This perennial native to the Americas is essential in the Monarch butterfly's life cycle and an integral part of a healthy meadow ecosystem. The milky sap is toxic for pets, but not the pollinators attracted to the plant. Average soil and water are all you need to care for Asclepias as long as it gets 8-hours of sun. Milkweed has had many uses throughout human history to include medicinal purposes with native Indians. Natives used it for diarrhea relief, for swellings and rashes, to treat colic, to expel tapeworms, to cure snakebite, and as a contraceptive. It was chewed to relieve sore throats, and new mothers would drink it to promote lactation. Please note: WE DO NOT recommend this plant for human consumption.
