Buttercups are also know by their botanical name "Ranunculus". The peony, multi-petaled type flowering blooms are extremely vibrant in color and very showy. Good as cut flowers in bouquets. Easy to grow and are deer resistant. Ranunculus bulbs are widely available at retail nurseries and mail-order catalogs in mixed colors. However, ranunculus in single colors are unique and caught our eye, as they make for striking color displays in the garden. We have identified this color to be special. The plants are not very hardy and may be treated as an annual in colder zones but thrive best in USDA zones 8 to 10. Simply replant new bulbs in colder zones or try to over winter them. Soak the corms in luke warm water overnight before planting to jump start development. Plant before danger of frost. Plant the corms with the "claws" pointing downward.
