Nandinas are nicknamed Heavenly Bamboo or Sacred Bamboo and belong in the same genus as bamboo due to their similar leaves and cane like stems. Plant the fire red Nandina domestica fire power as a single specimen, mass planted as shrub borders or accents, or in containers if you are limited on space. Use the color as a focal point or blend in with other colors in the landscape. The dwarf Nandina Firepower can thrive in full sun or partial shade. A well drained, partially acidic soil is best to keep this plant thriving but it can adapt to a multitude of soil types. A yearly addition of nandina fertilizer will help the shrub perform its best. You can apply a slow release fertilizer at the base of the plant in early spring to encourage new growth.
