There's no need anymore for northern gardeners to envy the South for it arbors and pergolas covered in romantic blooming, vining wisteria. Summer Cascade Wisteria is a new variety that does well all the way up through zone 4. It's an excellent performer, too. Blooming up to 3-times a year in gorgeous pastels, the flowers are a beautiful lavender-blue borne in foot-long recemes. Their perfume turns heady in the afternoon sun. 1 thing you need to be aware of is where you plant Summer Cascade. It has heavy, woody vines and will need a big, strong structure on which to grow. It is often mistaken for an invasive cultivar because of its vigorous growing habit, but this is a native, non-invasive variety.
